In our Happy Friends Board and Train Program, we focus our training on getting your friendly dog ready to become and pass their Therapy Dog test.

 

We use force free, humane, positive reinforcement training methods for our Happy Friends Board and Train Program. It includes daily one-on-one training with our trainer and your dog at the trainer's home and in public settings.

We will determine what your dog finds reinforcing, whether that be their food, soft or crunchy treats, toys, praise, affection or real-life rewards (such as sniffing or going outside). We use Ruffwear harnesses and leash safety straps whenever your dog is taken off of the trainer's property. Your dog will also be safely transported in a secured Ruff Land kennel.

Our Happy Friends Board and Train Program is currently only one of a few in Arizona that does not use inhumane or punishment based methods, or aversive tools like e-collars, prongs or choke chains.

We require all potential clients wanting to enroll their dog into our Happy Friends B&T Program to complete our Therapy Dog Evaluation. This takes place in a public setting, and allows us to see how your dog reacts to different stimuli in a new environment. The $100 fee does go towards the cost of your Happy Friends B&T Program if they successfully pass the Evaluation.

We also require proof of your dog's examination by your veterinarian to ensure they is in optimal health no more than 10 days prior to starting the Happy Friends B&T Program.

This ensures that your dog is healthy, nutritionally sound and likely able to physically and mentally handle the potential stress of being away from home. 

All dogs must show veterinarian proof of current vaccinations (Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella) or a current titer test as well as flea/tick prevention.

We ask that you provide enough food to last your dog during their stay to minimize upset stomach.

Dogs who enter into our Happy Friends B&T Program must be reliably potty trained and comfortable being in a crate.

Your dog will be in their crate during mealtimes, overnight sleeping hours and if the trainer needs to leave for a lesson/errand and no one is home. This is done for the everyone's safety.

Female dogs must be either spayed or not in season. The training process can be disrupted for females in heat.

We require a $500 non-refundable booking fee to hold your spot in the Happy Friends Board and Train Program. The remainder of the Program cost must be paid 48 hours prior to your dog being picked up for training.

 

All Happy Friends B&T Programs (minus the booking fee) are refundable up to 7 days prior to the start of your Program. We do offer payment plans, but balance must be paid off *prior* to starting the Happy Friends B&T Program.

• If out of state, three 60 minute virtual lessons included within 6 weeks after dog returns home

• One 30 minute virtual progress session during week one, two and three

• Optional bath before going home

• One 90 minute transfer lesson at drop off if local, or virtual session once back home

• 41 Days of one-on-one training

• Dogs 6 months old and up are eligible

• 60 Minute virtual consultation

• Curriculum is customized to your needs - this can include manners in public outdoor spaces, basic/advanced manners or introducing/proofing other skills

• One 30 minute virtual progress session during weeks one through five

• Optional bath before going home

• One 90 minute transfer lesson at drop off if local, or virtual session once back home

• One 60 minute in-home lesson within 4 weeks after dog returns home (if local)

• One 60 minute virtual lesson within 6 weeks after dog returns home (if local)

• Three 60 minute public lessons within 10 weeks after dog returns home (if local)

• If out of state, six 60 minute virtual lessons included within 10 weeks after dog returns home

If your dog has previously successfully completed a Happy Friends Board and Train Program, they are eligible for our Refresher Program - this is a great option if you are needing some things touched up on, or want to introduce them to new environments.

7-14 Day Happy Friends Refresher Board and Train Program Investment - $100/day

• Includes pick up & drop off at your home or Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport

• One-on-one training during their stay

• Dogs who have successfully completed our Happy Friends B&T Programs are eligible

• 60 Minute virtual consultation

• Curriculum is customized to your needs - this can include manners in public outdoor spaces, basic/advanced manners or introducing/proofing other skills

• Optional bath before going home

• One 60 minute transfer lesson at drop off (if local), or virtual session once back home

• One 60 minute virtual lesson within 2 weeks after dog returns home

• Email, virtual and text support for 3 months after Refresher Program is completed

We offer pick up and drop off service for our Happy Friends Board and Train Program clients who reside in the greater Phoenix/Maricopa County area. We can provide transportation for clients outside of our service area for an additional fee of $2/per mile for zip codes 30 miles outside of 85258.
